Kathy Westmoreland is an American singer who is best known for being a backing vocalist for Elvis Presley. She was born on August 10, 1956, in Memphis, Tennessee. Westmoreland started singing at the age of four and began her professional career at the age of 17 as a member of the group J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet.
Westmoreland began working with Elvis Presley in 1970 and became a permanent member of his live show in 1972. She remained with Presley until his death in 1977 and continued to perform as a backing vocalist for other artists such as Dolly Parton, George Strait, and Willie Nelson.
In addition to her work as a singer, Westmoreland is also a vocal coach and has worked with artists such as Wynonna Judd and Reba McEntire. She has released several solo albums including "Kathy Westmoreland Sings Elvis," which features her interpretations of Presley's songs.
Westmoreland has also been involved in various charitable organizations and has worked with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2003.
